THE ANCIENT BONFIRES -NIGHT 28th of August 2010

Departure at 8.30 pm from the river Aurajoki near the bridge Martinsilta.
Cruise to Airisto experiencing the athmosphere of dark growing evening
and the bonfires.
The cruise takes 2,5 hours.

THE ROUTE TO THE ISLAND OF RUISSALO:  
Experience the voyage full of tourist attractions. After departure m/s Ruissalo drives along the river of Aurajoki to the legendary ferry Föri, which has served people for decades. Travelling further you`ll see the Guest Harbour of Turku and the buildings of the Maritime Centre Forum Marinum as well as the three-masted bargue Sigyn and the full-rigger Suomen Joutsen.
On the eastern side of the river there are the remains of the drydock of Wärtsilä.

Before the Island of Ruissalo you will see the Harbour of Turku and the docks of Silja Line and Viking Line.

Then you see already the Island of Ruissalo in front of you. You can start an expedition to the island of Ruissalo at The Visitor Centre Tammenterho which offers a wide range of information of  the island. There you`ll find also a bike rent and a small cafe.
 You can carry on your cruise to the pier of Folk Park (Kansanpuisto). In the park there are a beach and a restaurant. From there you can continue along the cycle and walking road Pikku-Pukin promenadi. The Botanical Gardens not far away from the park offers you a window into the diversity of plant life of the world. In the Island of Ruissalo you can find also a hotel, a golf club and a camping area.
Since 1972 the rock festival Ruisrock is arranged every July in the area of Folk Park.   

On your voyage back to the river Aurajoki you`ll see two castles from the sea: The Turku Castle which has guarded the mouth of river Aurajoki since the 13th century and also the massive Kakola - former prison.
